On the 4th February 2025, 7 days prior to writing this, a school shooting occurred at Centre Risbergska (an adult education centre) in Örebro, Sweden from 12:33pm to 14:15pm UTC. It has been named "the worst mass shooting in Swedish history" by Swedish PM Ulf Kristersson.
The media has named 35 year old Rickard Andersson (born Jonas Simon, having changed his name in 2017) as the suspect. Relatives have described him to Aftonbladet as a "loner" and a "recluse", had been unemployed for more than ten years, and had high-functioning autism. He may have gone to the education centre, as it was said he was in special needs classes for people with Asperger's and high-functioning autism, but whether that was in the same centre is unclear. It has been noted that he had a license for four firearms, and had three on him at the time of the attack, one of which was a standard hunting rifle with 30-06 caliber ammunition. He was also armed with a knife.
Eleven people, including Andersson, died in the attack, and six were injured. No motive has been released as of writing this, though major news sources have noted that Syrians and Bosnians were among those killed.
